    We have a saying here where I live “you can tell when times are hard; you’ll see the politicians on the streets with their hands in their own pockets.” The problem is that too many people ignore those ‘alarm bells’ you mention.

    politics is by nature corrupt, everywhere. There are honest politicians, but the deeper their involvement the less chance of prevailing. 🙂
