Sunday Sonnet!

Shadows (WP)

🎀

Wait! Wait! Resounds pre-emptive call of sense,
A hasty, thoughtless response to deter,
Amidst persuasive voices so intense,
The heedless lasting import can incur;
However good it be your mind to speak,
Prudence proscribes a cautious watch to keep,
Upon incautious, damaging critique
That can inflict abysmal trauma, deep;
Capricious as a potent lightning strike,
An uttered, ill-considered toxic thought,
Not only generates inflamed dislike,
But can ignite reciprocal onslaught.
In always finding pregnant pause to stare,
The wise regard each precious thought with care.

When to the distant Past my thoughts I turn,
Some counsel for the Present there to find,
Embers of rich experience brightly burn,
Irradiating warmth of Welcome, kind;
Too seldom do we access lessons taught
By error-stricken actions come to grief,
Until, perchance, in life we’re left distraught,
Appealing to what’s gone to seek relief;
Not only is the Past a burial ground,
Where hurtful, dark encounters are interred,
Nuggets of counsel, wise, oft there are found,
Awaiting on someone to be conferred.
Leave not untended what is gone before,
There, wisdom pearls aplenty lie in store.

🎆

Then came a gentle whisper on the wind,
Angelic in its velvet undertone,
Like magical ethereal wunderkind,
Emerging from a faraway unknown:
‘What ails your troubled spirit, now? she asked,
And brushed my furrowed forehead with a kiss;
Leaving my meek, defenceless mien unmasked,
Her touch seduced me share what was amiss;
‘Confounded by Tomorrow’s dark unknown,
Deception would my hapless thoughts assail!’
In soft, mellifluous chords her voice intoned:
‘Distracted mind of ancient wit avail –
From shackles of disquietude walk free,
What is to be, Good Grace shall oversee!’

Alone she sat disconsolately bowed,
Her customary calm demeanour strained;
Allegiance to Sophia disavowed,
Her credibility now sadly stained;
Distorted images of Truth abound,
Supplanted by intrigue of cunning Lies;
No greater fear can villainy compound
Than other human beings demonise;
Democracy, deflowered by Deceit,
Forever bears the scars of deep distrust,
Yet, Faith must not surrender in defeat,
For Hope shall be restored to all the Just;
Fraternity her mettle needs avail,
Equality shall in the end prevail!

Sunday Sonnet!

Rising tongues (WP)..

🎀

As waves of incense permeate the air,
Infusing everyone with fragrance sweet,
A sense of the divine, beyond compare,
Reach out, in love, the praying soul to meet;
Immersed in plainsong’s joyful, lilting tone,
Committed devotees their worship tend,
In adoration of the Great Unknown
Whose steadfast faithfulness none can unbend;
Some hold such observation in contempt,
Decrying blind belief as fanciful,
Yet proof resides within sincere attempt,
And not in wrapping minds in cotton wool;
The fool can see no sense in anything,
The wise perceives some good in everything!
