Sunday Sonnet!

‘Tis reassuring, most, to be aware
Of living in the ambit of God’s Grace,
Each moment that I pause to stand and stare,
Into the vast expanse of boundless space;
Then fills exultant robin tranquil air
With dulcet song, the coldest heart to warm,
Its tiny life embraced within the Care
Of Him, for whom all goodness is the norm.
From boundless sky to ocean, bottomless,
Station or stature, creature counts for naught,
Accessing Godhead’s goodwill limitless,
Save what through humble, patient trust is sought.
Seek not the morrow’s blessings e’er to see,
For all we know, the best is yet to be!

Sunday Sonnet!

Tap-tapping gently on the window pain,
Red robin rouses man asleep in chair,
Who, thinking it might merely be the rain,
Bestirs, then dozes off without a care;
Insistent little redbreast taps once more,
This time with greater passion in his call,
The old man stirs, as he had done before,
Raises reluctant eyelids, narrow, small –
Two tiny eyes invade the fog of age,
Occasioning a burgeoning, happy smile;
One’s needs the other’s kindness thus engage,
To make their co-existence prove worthwhile;
No better world there ever can be known,
With reciprocity the cornerstone!

Sunday Sonnet!

🎶

Now that the sun has gone to take his rest,
And we have eaten our own evening meal,
We eagerly await our garden guest,
The little redbreast to bird-feeder steal;
While other feathered friends will come and go,
Throughout the day with little or no rest,
Our robin, at sunset, flies to and fro,
As though he comes to feed at our behest.
He sits on perch and lifts his handsome head,
I’m sure, he knows we’re watching from within,
He senses there is naught for him to dread,
Secure as he would be with kith and kin;
The mysteries of Nature none can plumb,
Replete with marvels rendering many dumb!

Hush!
Be Still!
Hear, Gentle robin
Serenade his captive audience –
Bravo!

Like pristine starch-white table cloth,
A frost bedecks the lawn,
A smitten robin finds no broth,
Its fast to break at dawn,
As pangs of hunger spawn,
In famished waifs forlorn!
