Sunday Sonnet!

Elusive as proverbial pot of gold,
Convincing as conjurer’s sleight of hand,
Untarnished truth, becloaked remains untold,
Subverted gemstone hidden in the sand.
By self-serving seductive wiles betrayed,
Maltreated with dismissive disregard,
Morality, herself is left dismayed,
Perception of veracity is marred.
Lo, constant chronos waves his silent wand,
Outlasting vanity’s ephemeral wares,
Attending patiently at destiny’s hand.
When reaper parts the wholesome wheat from tares.
What needs be known shall ne’er remain unknown.
Unsullied pearl of truth none can dethrone.

Sunday Sonnet!

Loud effervescent outbursts of delight
Erupt, when entertained by trumpery,
When sense from nonsense flees like day from night,
Clear testament of human tragedy;
Beguiled by twittered galleons of fake news,
Frail vessels of fine truth cannot withstand
Relentless onslaught of contorted views,
Unless defence of Truth be better manned;
Though quills their thrust of influence may yield,
Ostensibly, to senseless blathering,
Yet, in the end, great power shall they wield,
When bells of verity again shall ring.
No greater moral posture can there be
Than unaffected, frank, integrity!

Give me the grace my selfishness to yield,
Compassion shall its absence gladly fill;
Grant me the hapless indigent to shield,
Their long untended hungriness to still;
Give me the will intentions to sustain,
That time may not their content dissipate;
Grant grace that I my self-respect retain,
Lest mine, like other promises stagnate.
Mortals surrender easily to I,
Succumbing to unbridled appetite,
The route for all the world to go awry,
At last, declining into moral night.
To close the ever-widening divide,
Shall we build walls or bridges, let’s decide!
