Sunday Sonnet!

Spent leaf (WP)

🦋

Impassioned pleas for mercy go unheard
When stifled by insane pursuit of greed,
Compassion languishes in tomb interred
As though from thence never to be retrieved;
Enfeebled sterile voices fail to stir
Bowels of human kindness to respond,
Vain cowardice shamefacedly demur,
By compromise their dignity long conned;
Faint, haltered hope, like gentle morning breeze
Imbues new dawning day with waking life,
Deflated spirit kindles to increase
Determination to o’ercome the strife;
As fleeting be our precious time unfurled,
As transient are the values of the world.
