Sunday Sonnet!

Gardenia Unfolding (WP)

Distressed, when we have done with good intent
Impacts upon our bodies with fatigue,
Though we decline from busyness relent,
And take no mean exception to critique;
Entrapped by trivial thoughts that cause concern,
Diurnal or nocturnal time, no rest,
Leaves little space for good sense to discern
The underlying troubler to divest;
Fret not about the morrow’s unknown course,
Nor harbour in your mind distracting thoughts,
The aftermath just fills one with remorse
As one regrets the many musts and oughts;
Good counsel, free, for all the world to see,
Two keys to life, serene, ‘Let Go’, ‘Let Be’.

As pass the years of doing this and that,
Oft driven by obsessive need to please
Unruly passions, ending in regret,
Mere mortals, so the lord of life decrees,
Need not be caught up in the rodent race,
Learn lesson that appears in elder age,
To hasten slowly at a measured pace,
Receding strength of talents to engage;
Too often, much too late, we soldier on,
Ignoring counsel of the inner voice,
Until affliction’s dissonance is born,
Rendering our pride with little or no choice.
Humility our shortcomings to see,
Enables graceful future well to be.

When to the distant Past my thoughts I turn,
Some counsel for the Present there to find,
Embers of rich experience brightly burn,
Irradiating warmth of Welcome, kind;
Too seldom do we access lessons taught
By error-stricken actions come to grief,
Until, perchance, in life we’re left distraught,
Appealing to what’s gone to seek relief;
Not only is the Past a burial ground,
Where hurtful, dark encounters are interred,
Nuggets of counsel, wise, oft there are found,
Awaiting on someone to be conferred.
Leave not untended what is gone before,
There, wisdom pearls aplenty lie in store.

We search for endless years that niche to find,
From unrelenting meddling thoughts apart,
That ambience to inner growth resigned,
And discontent forever can depart.
Mere mortals grow accustomed to their fate,
Seduced by concrete transients for their roots;
Inclined the wiser counsel to berate,
Deferring to more palatable fruits;
Yet, deep within each selfhood there resides,
Unquenchable desire to attain
Much more, surpassing earthenware, besides,
The stuff of which endures beyond all stain,
May God his gracious gift to all decree,
That peace of ‘letting go’ and ‘letting be’!

Sunday Sonnet!

Madiba(WP)

When I opine upon your pristine face,
And ponder on the marvel of such grace,
The calm demeanour of persuasive smile,
Enjoin my hasty gestures to restyle;
Too easily your counsel is declined,
Committing us to suffer, much maligned,
Yet, constantly your presence at my side,
In gentle whispers, courage does confide;
Upon each thought and action kindly pour
The elixir of Father Time before
They, with determined missive, take the wing
And all but goodness to their purpose bring;
To you, fair Patience, do these words appeal,
Lest, for my indiscretions I must kneel!
