Sunday Sonnet!

🦋

Soft, gentle zephyrs stroke the ripening corn,
Like rhythmic, dancing wavelets on the lake,
A skylark serenades still, peaceful morn,
Invoking all and sundry to awake;
Light, measured footfalls early rambler sounds
Append the purring of a turtle dove,
Though none of these, in any way, confounds
The master songster, soaring up above;
Angelic aspects of each gifted day
Present, untried, to all discerning hearts,
Let none such generosity betray,
Lest from this earth he fruitlessly departs;
Since Nature paints a picture so divine,
Pray, may I not such graciousness decline!

Sunday Sonnet!

New Day.(WP).

I did not choose this domicile to root,
Secreted by rough rocks and sunless trees,
Few passers-by venture this way on foot,
Though being in the leeward of sea-breeze;
My advent here divined by God of Chance,
Who grasped my latent life on Zephyr’s wing,
Where merrily I led a fulsome dance,
Unceremoniously me here to bring;
Within my nature lies the will to be,
No matter where or how I find myself,
Transmuted from potential into me,
According to the Oracle of Delph;
And now you see my pretty yellow head,
Intent on bringing joy, sans tinge of dread!

Sunday Sonnet!

robin on branch

🎶

Now that the sun has gone to take his rest,
And we have eaten our own evening meal,
We eagerly await our garden guest,
The little redbreast to bird-feeder steal;
While other feathered friends will come and go,
Throughout the day with little or no rest,
Our robin, at sunset, flies to and fro,
As though he comes to feed at our behest.
He sits on perch and lifts his handsome head,
I’m sure, he knows we’re watching from within,
He senses there is naught for him to dread,
Secure as he would be with kith and kin;
The mysteries of Nature none can plumb,
Replete with marvels rendering many dumb!

Caressed by gentle early morning breeze,
Their little yellow heads turn to the sun,
Their eager little spirits to unfreeze,
That searching lonely ramblers may have fun;
Sweet lark salutes the day with joyful song,
Resounding o’er somnolent, rolling field;
Anon they will be hosting feathered throng,
A matchless chorus for the heart to yield.
Heralds of Spring, you are, fair daffodils,
Pregnant with pristine beauty, unsurpassed,
The dream of hope in lonely hearts fulfils,
Whose warm embraces transience will outlast.
Though brief your visit be each passing year,
Your sight is balm to many a lingering tear!

Sunday Sonnet!

A smiling stillness bathes the sunlit wood
Enhancing Autumn colours of the leaves,
As ramblers idly amble, feeling good,
Engaging flights of fancy none perceives;
Few bees, with butterflies, caress fair blooms,
Imbibing nectar, gathering fine spores
To place elsewhere, like dedicated grooms,
Transition oft accomplished without pause;
Attend, the charm of Nature to behold –
Let senses, all, the miracles embrace
And open souls be filled with joy untold,
Becoming of a gift of Divine Grace;
If wonder be the basis of all being,
Then ponder be the reason for all seeing!
