On early morning stroll along the beach,
I met an old dishevelled, broken man,
Whose words would me a lasting lesson teach,
When profferring concern as best one can;
He kindly smiled and gestured with his hand,
Inviting me to sit down by his side;
His bony finger pointed to the sand,
A cultured voice reflecting a soft pride –
I had it all once, station, health and wealth,
Delighting in the might of lacking none;
Unmindful what deception spawned by stealth,
The dawn broke with my life laid bare, undone.
Succumb not to the Power of the Purse,
An All-consuming self-inflicted Curse!

While walking on a lonely sandy beach,
Deserted, but for wavelets at my feet,
A gently rolling object, within reach,
For fleeting moment stopped, as though to greet;
It seemed the wavelets paused a little while,
Attention of my spirit to arrest,
Unconsciously, I stopped and flashed a smile,
Which to an innate pleasure did attest;
From whence came such delight I cannot tell,
Though that it did, I never can deny,
From deep within unconsciousness upwell,
Its authenticity let none decry;
Such mystic moments reverie surprise,
Not often, nor so easy to reprise!

On the beach
Lies to bleach
Pink as peach –
Sleep will irk,
Be no jerk,

They stand on the beach;
He holds her face in his hands;
Their eyes lock in love.
Winged Time hovers;
Wavelets embrace their bare feet;
Placid Neptune smiles!
Distant dormant Sails,
Imbibe the listless Westwind;
Breathless silence breathes!
Her hand strokes his hair;
Frozen matchless moments thaw;
Liquid lips converge.

As shadows lengthen on the beach
And Winter beaks his bite,
The vulnerable for woollies reach,
And fragile soon takes flight –
To flee approaching night!
