Sunday Sonnet!

Grant me the patience to constrain my tongue,
When untoward, offensive words are heard,
Intent on denigrating old by young –
Unspoken response be the best preferred;
More oft such utterance comes from baseness born,
Or springs from mindless undeveloped youth;
Are such the likes that ignorance be-spawn,
As those who peddle, shamelessly untruth?
Alas, ’tis not to age nor class confined,
For thoughtless derogation knows no bound,
Too easily with vulnerable aligned,
Yet, often in the priv’leged to be found.
Would that in kindness others we could see,
The world a healthier, happier place would be!

  3. In conflict at any level, the first casualty is truth.

    Existentially speaking, who has the moral right to propound and approve what is given as incontrovertible truth? It is a question of and for The Moral Maze. I suspect that like philosophical discussion there will be circularity of argument and no resolution to the original question. I always bear in mind the adage, analysis also breeds paralysis.

  4. Great image and wise words. Some respect by the young towards their elders wouldn’t go amiss.

  5. You did a good job here. It goes well with our Wednesday evening Bible study. We are working our way through the book of James. Much is to be said about the use of the tongue and many lessons are to be learned by an in depth study of this wonderful book…
