When Fear becomes decision’s driving force,
And Reason finds itself usurped by Hate,
When opportunists plot a Nation’s course,
And Honesty declines in parlous state,
Will gods-in-counsel seek to intervene
Or let the scribes of history tell their tale,
Will Fate deliver suffering unforeseen
Or Kindness in the human breast prevail?
Great Goodness evil intent can transcend
Transforming Winter Winds to Summer Sun,
Let Trust return ill-judgements to amend
A haven to create for everyone;
Forget not blessings Future to ensure,
Forsake not well-honed values that endure!

point of info…is not a “referendum” a recall on a voted decision? I don’t get it…email if you prefer.

Nothing so complicated:
‘A general vote by the electorate on a single political question which has been referred to them for a direct decision.’
OED…. See here:

Origin
Mid 19th century: from Latin, gerund ( ‘referring’) or neuter gerundive ( ‘something to be brought back or referred’) of referre (see refer)
.(same source OED definition…) there must be an existing issue/ordinance/law to “refer to” no? I see that London went big to stay “IN”…very interesting topic.

as council clerk we had referendum doings … usually something like a vote on new apartment buildings…or something like that. Some always said “yes” but most said “no.” My office handled petitions and stuff, checking signatures and such. lots of hanky and panky…petitions had a way of disappearing. But not from my office…:-)

Great contribution Elliot. People want some control over their lives. With a referendum you can’t have two bites of the cherry – make sure the first one was the right one.
